Major Police Force Achieves Digital Transformation with Airmax Remote Telematics

News

Airmax Remote is proud to highlight a remarkable success story in collaboration with a major Southern police force, showcasing how our Airmax Response telematics platform has initiated significant operational changes across their fleet. This milestone speaks to the strength of a long-term partnership secured via the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) framework and underscores Airmax’s dedication to innovation and service excellence.

Complex Rollout, Seamless Delivery

The initial deployment involved equipping approximately 1,650 vehicles across two counties over six months. This comprehensive rollout process included complete access to the Airmax Response platform, integration of Emergency Warning Equipment and a Contactless Driver ID system.

To mitigate any operational disruption, these installations were completed by vetted mobile technicians during pre-planned service events at designated fixed locations. This proactive approach crucially ensured no additional off-road time and maintained the full availability of front-line vehicles.

Before full-scale implementation of this solution, the police force carried out a rigorous test and evaluation phase, which involved equipping two vehicles per model type and validating data transmission accuracy through structured comparisons on predefined routes. This methodology guaranteed system reliability and data integrity from the outset.

Transforming PCN Processing

The most immediate and obvious operational wins of the introduction were in the handling of Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs). Previously a highly manual process that could take up to three months, resolving PCNs now takes only two weeks, which is an impressive 70% reduction in processing time.

Key PCN Efficiencies:

  • Admin time cut by 66%: from 45 minutes down to 15 minutes per case.
  • Advanced mapping tools, which allow officers to immediately review trip data, identify drivers, monitor emergency light use and validate authorisations, and often enable immediate PCN cancellation.
  • The force has saved the equivalent of 10 weeks of administrative work since adopting the system.

Safer Driving and Smarter Decisions

The telematics data supplied by Airmax Remote also provides the capability for enhanced driver behaviour monitoring. Oversight by a dedicated Driver and Vehicle Data Management Team (DVDMT) has resulted in a far lower number of speeding and idling incidents.

Using Driver Grades, the system ensures that each emergency response is enacted by the most qualified personnel, greatly improving both safety and operational efficiency.

Built on Secure, Scalable Technology

Central to Airmax Response’s offering is Microsoft Azure, a compliant PASF (UK Police-Assured Secure Facility) environment that maintains UK data sovereignty and optimal security; a vital consideration for public sector operations.

To enable more in-depth insights, Airmax uses a data warehousing and analytics approach. This unified platform has supported the force’s:

  • Strategic fleet planning
  • 20% reduction in fleet size
  • Alignment with net-zero goals and a smooth transition toward Electric Vehicles (EVs)

These insights have helped the force to maintain an optimised fleet profile and distribution, delivering both environmental benefits and long-term cost savings.

Supporting Broader Policing Operations

Beyond just PCNs, Airmax Remote’s solution is proving effective in other vital departments:

  • The Anti-Corruption Team is leveraging telematics data in investigations.
  • Driver Training leadership has praised the system’s ease of use and tangible insights.

“We are incredibly proud of the profound impact our telematics solution has had on this major police force’s operations. This case study truly demonstrates the tangible benefits of advanced data insights, from streamlining critical administrative tasks to fostering safer driving and supporting the strategic shift towards electrification. Our partnership underscores our commitment not only to delivering real value and evolving with the critical needs of our clients, but also to ensuring our data strategy is continually evolving, with ongoing investment in future application landscapes to support modernisation and leverage the latest technologies.”Richard Perham, Managing Director, Airmax Remote

What’s Next?

With the success of this deployment now standing as a nationwide benchmark for best practice, Airmax Remote is continuing to improve its offering. A key priority on the roadmap is to fully digitalise trip recording and driver identification, removing the need for paper logbooks entirely, and further improving administrative streamlining.

These continued innovations will unlock even greater efficiencies and strengthen support for public safety across the UK.
