In 2020, BVRLA members collectively bought around 80% of all battery electric vehicles sold in the UK, making the industry a leading driver of putting cleaner vehicles on the road.

With 2021 seeing the continued implementation of Clean Air Zones across several UK towns and cities, more organisations are looking for cleaner vehicles. Airmax Remote stand ready to meet the needs of those organisations that are adopting EV’s as part of their fleet and want to extract precise data.

Fleets’ migration to electric vehicles is a key market for Airmax Remote; our focus on EV compatibility has been on-going since the end of 2019 and we recognise the importance of providing big data technologies to those fleets that are utilising the electric vehicles within their fleet.

As EV’s produce no vehicle emissions it means that they don’t have to comply with OBD EU standard, therefore connectivity can be challenging. In addition, without vehicle revs and fuel consumption a new dynamic and approach is required. As a result Airmax Remote are looking at new and innovative ways to provide value data insight, Battery Health, kilowatts per mile (kw/m) a measure of efficiency similar to miles per gallon in a petrol/ diesel vehicle, charge efficiency and range accuracy.

I have an EV and I need to extract the data from the vehicle. What can I do?

As the popularity of electric vehicles increases, fleet managers need to ensure that any SMR issues are conveniently managed and if possible predicted. Over the past twelve months, Airmax Remote engineers have been working to ensure compatibility on a range of electric vehicles as they come to market, enabling robust datasets that can be extracted from the vehicle to provide insight into any pre-emptive maintenance requirements. Airmax Remote is now compatible with over 90% of electric vehicle brands, including Tesla, VW id3 and BMW. The current list of compatible vehicles include:

BMW: i3

Hyundai: Ioniq | Kona

Nissan: e-NV200 | Leaf

Tesla: Model 3

Peugeot: 3008 | 208

Jaguar: I-Pace

Merc: EQC

Polestar 2

Kia: E-Niro

How does Airmax Remote differ from other providers in extracting the data?

Airmax Remote’s data integrity sets them apart from other providers in the UK. As a connected car provider, Airmax Remote will answer all the challenges that standard connected manufacturer systems are going to be asked by mixed fleets, by bringing all that data together.

Unlike most telematics providers Airmax is different in that it can control its development, its firmware, its code. With its strong vehicle background, the business is able to get the richest information out of a vehicle.

How Airmax Remote is investing in telematics solutions for EV’s

Airmax Remote is investing a significant proportion of its R&D capabilities into developing EV telematics solutions to provide tangible insight into EV performance, including the opening of a new innovation facility in Aston, Birmingham in August 2021.
